Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, speaking at the economic forum in Doha, Qatar, made beneficial remarks for Russia and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Georgy Vashadze, leader of the Georgian opposition Strategy Builder party, said at a briefing in Tbilisi on May 24.
He reacted to Garibashvili’s statements that Georgia would not open a second front for Russia, would not impose sanctions against Russia and would continue to trade with its northern neighbor, as they do in the EU.
“It was not the Prime Minister of Georgia who spoke, it was a pro-Russian bot, speaking on behalf of Georgia with useful messages for Russia: we are dealing with the sale of Georgia and the betrayal of European interests”Vashadze said.
The opponent believes that Garibashvili supported the Russian position on the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. The party leader noted that the Prime Minister stated that the Georgian economy depends on trade relations with the Russian Federation.
“The main message of the prime minister’s speech to the whole world was: ‘Leave us alone, we love Russia’, it was not the prime minister of Georgia who spoke, but Putin’s personal representative”– said the representative of the opposition.
Vashadze accused Garibashvili of abandoning the path of European integration and striving for “isolation” together with Belarus and Russia.
Recall that Georgia refused to impose sanctions against Russia. According to representatives of the republic’s leadership, thanks to this, the growth of the Georgian economy in 2022 exceeded 10%.
Georgia’s liberal opposition parties view all government actions through the prism of relations with the West and Russia and criticize anything that looks like a totally pro-Western departure from course. Opponents of the ruling Georgian Dream party call it the Russian Dream.
