The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) placed 12 areas on the Portuguese mainland under yellow alert this Friday due to a rain and thunderstorm forecast, joining the other six on Saturday.
The areas of Bragança, Viseu, Evora, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Beja, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Portalegre and Braga will be under yellow warning from 12:00 to 21:00 on Friday and from 12 :00 to 21:00 on Friday. On Saturday, in connection with the forecast, showers are heavy in places, accompanied by thunderstorms, hail and strong gusts of wind.
IPMA extended the yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms from 12:00 to 21:00 on Saturday for the areas of Faro, Setúbal, Santarém, Leiria Aveiro and Lisbon.
A Yellow Alert is issued by IPMA whenever a risk situation arises for certain weather dependent activities.
