“Nha Kasa”, Tyro Costa’s hunt

Tyro Costa was born in the depths of the island of Santiago, in Santa Cruz. He currently resides in the United States, but last April he returned to Cape Verde to present his newly released album Nha Casa. It was on the Plateau in Praia, during the Atlantic Music Expo.

Thairo intends to represent the identity of Cape Verde in the world. “I love making music that represents me. The purpose of mixing finação, funaná or batuque with hip-hop is to find your own identity,” the singer says of what he considers Creole hip-hop.

Leaving for the United States was a key step in Tyro Costa’s life. Your life has changed. “Today I can say that I am an independent person. I have the opportunity to record my own songs, create my own ideas without depending on many people. Here in Cape Verde, it’s not easy when you don’t have conditions. In the United States, I have the opportunity to achieve everything that I want. It was very important for my career. Today I have my own album. I have worked hard to find this opportunity. My songs represent the people of Cape Verde. I convey a message so that people understand that things are not as simple as we think. Sometimes we have to sacrifice ourselves, fight to find space, identity, destiny. In the United States, I wrote a song called “Nha camino ê mi ki ta fazi” (I am the one who makes my way) because I don’t have to depend on people to make my way. I have to fight to find an opportunity to show people that they can make their dreams come true. I can’t change a person in forty years, but by the power of my musical revolution I can change a child who in forty years could change my country. This is what I want from my music. Link, identity, protection. I want to be a black woman, a black man, a black child, my community, Cape Verde, Africa,” explains the singer, who wants his songs to be food so that those who live in difficult conditions have the strength to strive for the best . living conditions.

The album he recently released is called “Nha Casa”, which in Creole can mean “my house” or “my game”. “This is an album that tells about my history, Cape Verde and African identity. About the difficulties of slavery, food, clothing, housing,” explains Tairo Costa about the social problems present in his work. The singer recorded several styles: tabanca, finação, cola São João, batuque, rap, reggae, afro, Drill. “You will find whatever you want. I made an album for children, teenagers, youth, adults and seniors. I won’t say older because my grandmother warned me that the shoes are old. They will find love … For people to understand that love is a human identity It is a sign that we can carry in our heart to be able to find peace, joy and success in what we like to do My album has a double meaning good Creole, my home and my hunt Because you know you have to go hunting to find something So I hunted for the artists I like to be here in my house To be able to celebrate the music of Cape Verde women, and show that there is strength in their pose,” says the singer, who created the Monoparental project. This is also the theme on your album. This speaks to a very real problem in Cape Verde, where children grow up, often in the absence of a father. “If you are a real mother or father, you will never deny your responsibility. We have a Facebook page dedicated to “parental responsibility”. She talks about the difficulties of families in Cape Verde. This is what my music portrays, transforming difficulty into opportunity and opportunity to represent our community. I am honored when I see the joy on the faces of African women, they inspire me. They make me believe in the possibility of being the person we want,” says Tairo Costa. .
