The NGO Doctors Without Borders has brought survivors to safety in Bari, Italy, after receiving authorization for a safe harbor.
the rescue ship ‘Geo Barents’ of the NGO Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has announced this Saturday one of the most numerous saves of the year in Mediterranean waters by rescuing, in a single operation, 599 passengers of a large barge in distress.
The procedure, which has lasted for three hours, began after MSF received a notice from the Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Center to request assistance in rescuing the passengers from the barge, which is in danger of capsizing.
The crew of the ‘Geo Barents’ has finished bringing the survivors to safety, including women and children, and has received authorization for a safe port in Bari (Italy) 40 hours away from the rescue area, as reported by MSF in your Twitter account.
