Germany’s refugee policy must be toughened up, Saxony Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) said on 29th May, writes the daily Zeit Online.
“We need stronger instruments and effective agreements for the return of denied asylum and illegal immigrants”Kretschmer told Die Welt newspaper.
According to the politician, “It’s time to make bold decisions.” In particular, Kretschmer proposed the creation of a commission in which various political and social groups should be represented.
“This commission should develop a proposal that the federal and state governments can support, and that could also include an amendment to the Basic Law”Kretschmer continued. This commission should also deal with the size of social benefits for refugees, which vary widely in Europe.
Kretschmer explained that “tension” and “frustration” are growing in Germany. “It won’t end well if we let it go on like this”warned the politician.
