The Judicial Police (JP), through the National Anti-Narcotics Team (UNCTE), seized a sailboat off the high seas this week with about a ton of cocaine on board.
The ship left Suriname, a state in the north of South America, and headed for Portugal.
This was reported by a source PJ. cm that the information had reached Portugal through the Naval Analytical and Operations Centre, and the task of coordinating the landing operation had been delegated to UNCTE.
This action, which is part of Operation Monaco to combat international human trafficking, was carried out with the support of the human and material resources of the Portuguese Navy.
The only crew member on board, a 53-year-old man, was arrested.
The ship was towed to the Alfaite naval base.
This Thursday, at 16:00, a press conference will be held at this Almada Navy unit with UNCTE Director Arthur Vaz and representatives of the Navy for more information about the operation.
