The red alert, the most severe of the three, will be in effect from 3:00 pm Monday to 3:00 pm Tuesday.
IPMA has also issued an orange warning for the north coast, south coast and highlands of Madeira due to heavy rain from 12:00 to 15:00 this Monday, and for Porto Santo until 9:00, then color change to yellow. until 15:00.
The north coast, south coast and highlands of Madeira and Porto Santo will also be under a yellow warning due to the forecast for occasional strong winds from the south quadrant gusting up to 80 kilometers per hour until 15:00 this Monday. .
An orange warning indicates a moderate or high risk weather situation, and a yellow warning is issued whenever a risk situation occurs for certain weather-dependent activities.
The Oscar Depression underlies the bad weather forecast for the Madeira archipelago.
According to the IPMA statement, “the name Oscar has been given by AEMet (Spain’s State Meteorological Agency)” to a “complex depression” that is expected to hit the Madeira Islands and affect the mainland from Wednesday. but with less intensity.
Due to the deteriorating weather situation, the Madeira Civil Protection Service recommends avoiding travel to the affected areas and movement in areas with destroyed buildings due to the risk of landslides.
He also asks that due attention be paid to prefabricated structures, scaffolding hulls, sheds, screens and roofs, which can be affected by gusts of wind and possible falling trees.
He also recommends safe driving, slowing down and being careful about water layers, as well as cleaning up rainwater drainage systems and removing aggregates and other objects that could drag on or obstruct the free flow of water.
Civilian authorities also do not recommend walking routes, especially in mountainous areas, on open slopes and in coastal areas.
