Mozambique police announced the arrest of two Malawian men who allegedly tried to sell a nine-year-old child in Nyasa province in northern Mozambique.
Two men, aged 43 and 47, were detained at the Mandimba checkpoint without their documents or the identity of the child, said National Criminal Investigation Service (Sernik) Nyasa spokesman Moises Matanga.
During police questioning, the two Malawians stated that “the minor was his grandson and they intended to take him to the Republic of Malawi, where he was going to reside,” Sernik’s spokesman said.
According to police, the suspects lived in a house in the Chimbonila area, and when they left, they took a minor with them without the permission of their parents.
