140 Joint National Forces operatives flew out this Wednesday to help put out fires that have swept Canada. Speaking to reporters, Interior Minister José Luis Carneiro said the action was very important to show that Portugal was “ready for the mission and mobilization of these forces.”
Meteorological conditions for the coming days in the country have been assessed and, possibly, the conditions for traveling to Canada are met, since the critical height of fires in Portugal begins only on July 1.
The elements will operate in the province of Quebec in eastern Canada, where there are hundreds of active fires.
“If everything goes according to plan, we will have more resources, but we will still have to wait for some administrative procedures,” said José Luis Carneiro.
