United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres said this Wednesday that neo-Nazi white supremacist movements pose a major internal security threat this Wednesday in several countries and warned of “online” radicalization.
At a meeting of the UN Security Council on the peacekeeping impact of intolerance, hate speech, racism and other manifestations of extremism, Guterres focused on the problem of hate, especially online, which “contributes to terrible cycles of violence that can last for decades.”
“Around the world, we are seeing a wave of xenophobia, racism and intolerance, violent misogyny, anti-Muslim hatred, violent anti-Semitism and attacks on Christian minorities, and one that is growing the most,” he said.
