At least 78 migrants died this Wednesday after a shipwreck in Greece. The ship was overcrowded and sank, according to The Guardian.
“We fear that the death toll is higher,” the Greek Navy Ministry spokesman was quoted by the news agency as saying.
The vessel was first spotted on Tuesday by a Greek Coast Guard vessel. The migrants who were on deck refused help and continued on their way.
A few hours later, the boat capsized and sank, starting a search and rescue operation. By 12:00 pm, 104 people had been rescued.
Most of the crew is from Egypt, Syria and Pakistan. It is still not known exactly how many people were on that boat.
The accident is already considered the deadliest shipwreck in Greece this year.
