Two more nuclear power plants in the Netherlands will come online in 2035, the kingdom’s cabinet has decided, the NL Times reported on November 30.
Energy secretary Rob Jetten has already held talks, including with private entities, about financing the project, according to the paper’s source. According to Jetten, the construction of power plants can be completed around 2035.
According to the Cabinet, we are talking about Borsel in Zealand. Borsele is the obvious preferred location since it already has a central nuclear power plant. The decision is not yet final, those involved emphasized. The Cabinet of Ministers will be able to decide at a meeting of the Council of Ministers on December 2.
It should be noted that the lower house of the Dutch Parliament (Tweede Kamer) on November 29 already adopted a proposal to implement the promised approach to accelerate the construction of nuclear power plants.
Recall that the Cabinet of Ministers of the Netherlands allocated 5 billion euros for nuclear energy in the climate fund.
