Nelson Semedo and Joao Palinha will miss Tuesday’s Euro 2024 qualifier between Portugal and Iceland in Reykjavik after failing to make the final list sent to UEFA.
Semedo and Paligna, who were already absent from Monday’s national team training at the Laugardalsvellur Stadium, were left out of the 23 players that make up Roberto Martinez’s squad for the fourth round of Group J.
Paligna started last Saturday against Bosnia (3-0) and Semedo was released during the second half of the match played at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.
This means that at the very least, manager Roberto Martinez will have to make changes to the original squad, which will likely already include Cristiano Ronaldo, who will add his 200th cap for Portugal.
The Iceland-Portugal match in the fourth round of Group J of the Euro 2024 qualifying tournament is scheduled for 19:45 (18:45 local time) and will be officiated by Germany’s Daniel Siebert.
The quinas lead the group with nine points, followed by Slovakia with seven points and Luxembourg third with four. Bosnia and Iceland follow with three, finishing fourth and fifth respectively, while Liechtenstein is in last place with zero.
Only the top two in the group advance to the final stage of Euro 2024, which will be held in Germany.
