US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken warned this Wednesday of the need to protect Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, in addition to rebuilding it, and called Russia’s winter strategy “barbaric.”
“We are acting urgently to do two things: first, to ensure that, in a coordinated manner, we give Ukraine as much and as quickly as possible to repair, replace, make its energy infrastructure more resilient. ” said Anthony Blinken.
The head of American diplomacy spoke at a press conference following a meeting of the North Atlantic Council, which brought together NATO foreign ministers at the Palace of Parliament in Bucharest and which will end this Wednesday.
“At the same time, the other side of the coin is trying to provide the same effective protection for these infrastructures so that we do not fall into the cycle of repairing and replacing equipment, destroying it by the Russians and repeating the same thing. again,” he explained.
Blinken stressed that Russian President Vladimir Putin “is now focused on trying to destroy as much infrastructure as possible literally throughout the country.”
“Heating, water, electricity. For children, for the elderly, for the sick. These are Putin’s new goals, and he hits them hard. This exasperation of the Ukrainian people is barbarism,” he criticized.
The US representative insisted that the allies would support Ukraine throughout the winter and for as long as necessary.
“President Putin believes that if he raises the price high enough, the world will give up on Ukraine, leaving them to fend for themselves. His strategy has not worked and will not work. We will continue to prove him wrong, that’s what I heard clearly from all countries here in Bucharest,” he stressed.
