A team of Saudi surgeons successfully separated a pair of Egyptian conjoined twins named Salma and Sara after a complex 17-hour operation in Riyadh, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid Center (KSRelief) reported on June 22, Arab News reported. .
“Following the instructions of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, a specialized surgical team managed to separate the Egyptian twins Salma and Sarah, who shared the region of the head, after a complex operation that lasted 17 hours.”the Center said in a statement.
The operation began on June 21 at 8 am (Moscow time) at the King Abdullah Children’s Specialized Hospital at the King Abdulaziz Medical Center and was carried out by a team of 31 consultants, specialists, support staff and nurses.
The multidisciplinary team was led by Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabia, Advisor to the Saudi Royal House and Inspector General of KSRelief.
It should be noted that the twins arrived in the Kingdom on November 23, 2021 and, subsequently, a specialized team carried out a series of medical examinations.
