A 71-year-old German tourist died this Saturday on the beach of Porto Santo in Madeira, allegedly a victim of cardiopulmonary failure, the captain of the port of Funchal said.
“It was an accident, at first cardiac and respiratory arrest, and the woman suddenly fell ill while swimming on Fontainha beach,” Rui Teixeira told Lusa.
The head of the Regional Maritime Authority added that despite the intervention of rescuers and the Medical Rapid Response Team (EMIR), “the situation could not be changed” as the Porto Santo health delegate announced the death at 15:40.
The tourist was resting on the island, accompanied by her husband.
The body was moved to the island’s graveyard and the NCIS took care of the incident.
