Portuguese authorities have already seized 41 tons of drugs in 2023, the Judicial Police (PJ), which commemorates International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Traffic on Monday by burning six tons of drugs, said this Sunday.
“Regarding the anti-drug trafficking activities carried out this year at the national level by all involved entities, it is reported that as of June 26, according to available data, about 11 tons of cocaine, 30 tons of hashish and a smaller amount of other types of drugs,” it says in a statement sent to newsrooms.
The SP also said that the destruction of six tons of various types of illicit drugs seized over the past few months by various security forces will be carried out by burning “under the supervision of a commission consisting of a prosecutor, an investigator from the judicial police and an expert from the scientific police laboratory.”
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Traffic was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1987 “as an expression of determination to intensify action and cooperation towards the goal of an international society free from drug abuse and drug trafficking”.
