This Monday, the 27 member states of the European Union (EU) decided to increase the financial ceiling of the European Peace Support Mechanism by 3.5 billion euros in order to ensure the sustainability of this instrument and ensure the response to conflicts.
In a statement, the Council of the EU announced the decision that follows from the agreement between 27 and 20 March.
“This decision is designed to ensure the financial sustainability of the European Peace Fund. [MEAP] in the long term, to maintain its global geographical coverage and the ability of the EU to prevent and quickly respond to crises and conflicts,” the note says.
With this increase, MEAP’s financial ceiling has become over 12 billion euros.
In mid-April, the EU Council approved another 1 billion euros under the European Peace Support Mechanism (MEAP) for the supply of ammunition to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
