The National Republican Guard (GNR) detained a man and a woman, aged 40 and 35, respectively, in Santo Tirso for extortion. The suspects lent money to people with financial difficulties and took twice as much.
The man and woman demanded money at the end of each month, and in the absence of payment, the debt increased. Two women aged 25 and 47 were attacked by the detainees and threatened with death.
One of the victims has already paid the suspects about 30,000 euros. During the investigation, two searches were carried out, one in the house and the other in the vehicle, as a result of which two bladed weapons, a mobile phone and several notebooks with records of the victims were seized.
The suspects were arrested and appeared before the Matosinhos court on 23 June for enforcement action.
