Russia wants to strengthen friendly ties with the Moldovan people, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said on June 28, the department’s press service reported.
Russia and Moldova have not officially signed any agreements regulating the number of diplomatic missions of the two countries, relations are based on the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Russia determined the required number of diplomatic missions in Moldova, based on the volume of tasks that need to be addressed. Russia and Moldova are historically and culturally connected to each other, in addition, there is economic and humanitarian cooperation between the countries. In addition, there are links between countries at the level of ordinary citizens, said the official representative of the Foreign Ministry.
“More than 200,000 Russian citizens live in Moldova, and the Moldovan diaspora in Russia numbers about 500,000 people. The Russian side is interested in expanding and strengthening these ties with our friendly Moldovan people on the basis of the principles of mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs. Based on this, the current number of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau is absolutely justified.”Zakharova said.
However, the current Moldovan government followed the West and joined the anti-Russian campaign, began to destroy relations with Russia, which negatively affects the people of both countries.
The Moldovan authorities must understand that the reduction of the staff of the Russian embassy in Moldova will lead to a decrease “opportunities to provide consular and other assistance, including to citizens of Moldova”said the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Chisinau official adopted double standards when announcing parity the number of embassy employees, because this applies only to employees of the Russian diplomatic mission, but does not apply to the US, Romanian and British embassies.
“Such a destructive and hypocritical line, ignoring the opinion and interests of its own citizens, the “mantras” imposed on the “Russian threat and propaganda” cause increasing rejection among Moldovans, mostly a warm and friendly attitude towards our country. We call on the Moldovan authorities to finally listen to their own citizens and stop taking measures for the sake of the “collective West” that only cause misunderstandings and protests among their own people.”– said Zakharova.
Recall that the deputy of the ruling Action and Solidarity party Andrian Keptonar said that about 150 people work in the Russian embassy, and this is too much, in his opinion, because only six people work in the Moldovan embassy. He said that you need to build relationships. “Based on the principle of parity”.
It should be noted that citizens of Moldova who want to solve some problems at their consulate in Moscow are forced to register through spontaneously organized lists, people often queue at night to get to the embassy in the morning.
