More than 30 municipalities in six districts are at maximum fire risk

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), more than 30 municipalities in the districts of Bragança, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Santarém, Beja and Faro pose the highest fire risk this Thursday.

IPMA has also placed more than 100 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Beja, Évora, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisbon, Leiria, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Viseu, Porto, Braga, Vila Real and Bragança at very high risk.

More than a hundred municipalities are in the high-risk area in the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Vila Real, Porto, Aveiro, Viseu, Guarda, Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Lisbon, Setubal, Évora and Portalegre.

Due to hot weather, the fire hazard will continue until at least Sunday.

This risk, as defined by IPMA, has five levels, from reduced to maximum, and calculations are made based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and rainfall over the past 24 hours.

IPMA forecasts lower temperatures, especially highs, and strong winds on the west coast and in the highlands, gusting up to 75/80 kilometers per hour (km/h).

Skies will be slightly cloudy to clear, with periods of more cloudiness in the far north, with patches of morning mist or mist to the north and center.

Maximum temperatures will range from 23º in Aveiro to 38º in Faro, while minimums will range from 15º in Bragança, Braga and Guarda and 22º in Faro.

Due to hot weather and wind, IPMA has placed Faro, Lisbon, Leiria and Santarém under a yellow alert level, the second weakest of the four.
