The authorities’ plan to deport illegal immigrants from the country to Rwanda was declared illegal by the UK court, reports Africa News on June 29.
The Court explained that Rwanda is currently unable to guarantee the safety of migrants.
“The deficiencies of the asylum system in Rwanda are such that there are serious grounds to believe that there is a real risk that people expelled to Rwanda will be returned to their countries of origin”said the Chief Justice of England and Wales, Lord Burnett.
“Until the deficiencies in the asylum process are corrected, it will be illegal to send asylum seekers to Rwanda”the court stressed.
However, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he did not agree with the decision and announced that his government would seek permission to take the case to the High Court.
