A 57-year-old woman was stuck on an escalator at Don Muang Airport in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday and had to have her leg amputated.
According to BBC, the woman tripped over her own bag as she made her way to the departure area. The victim was rescued and taken to the hospital, where he was operated on.
The woman’s son said the entire family was “shocked” and worried about the accident. “We talked a little with her before and after the operation. Even though she has shown her strength, we know that deep down she is broken because she suddenly lost her leg,” Kit Kittirattana said.
The airport authority said it was “deeply saddened” by the accident and said it would compensate the injured person as well as bear all medical expenses.
The causes of the accident are being investigated.
