France will send 45,000 police officers to respond to street violence after a 17-year-old boy was killed by a police officer, French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin told TF1. The young man disobeyed the order to stop the car.
The death of a teenager outraged the population and caused unrest in the country. At least 667 people were arrested on Thursday during the protests.
The policeman who shot the teenager has already apologized to the young man’s family.
French President Emmanuel Macron will hold a new emergency government meeting, Reuters reported.
French Prime Minister Elisabeth Born, who has already met with ministers, called the protests “intolerable and inexcusable.”
