At least 719 people were detained on the fifth night of protests over the death of Nahel, a 17-year-old boy shot dead by police during Operation STOP. The information was provided by the French Ministry of the Interior and quoted BFMTV.
There were 194 arrests in and around Paris. There are also records of 45 injured policemen.
The reinforcement of the police by an interventionist corps in Paris made the night of protests the shortest ever, but even so anarchy roamed the Champs Elysées and left a trail of violence and destruction in its wake.
At 23:30 local time (22:30 Lisbon), the first videos began to appear on the social network Twitter: crowds on the Champs Elysees, equipped with motorcycle helmets and black smoke collars, withstand the onslaught of the police and the release of pepper and tear gas as a result of the “experience” previous days.
Nahel’s death sparked a wave of uprisings and protests in France. The last few days have been marked by riots and clashes in the city. Destruction is taking place in the streets of Paris as several cars and buildings have been set on fire and vandalized. In total, several thousand people were arrested.
