The fire, which broke out on Sunday afternoon in the forested area of the Freixial and Juncal do Campo districts in the municipality of Castelo Branco, is being fought by 156 operatives and six air assets, according to a civil protection source.
There are 50 cars left on the ground.
If the current weather conditions continue, the fire could be brought under control within an hour, according to a source from the Beira Baixa Sub-Regional Civil Defense Authority.
According to the same source, a fire in a wooded area, in which even eight aircraft were sent to the site, has not yet endangered either houses or people.
The fire alarm was issued around 6:37 p.m. and the aircraft, vehicles and operational personnel proceeded favorably, aided by the fact that there was no strong wind, a civil protection source said.
