Iranian sugar refineries produced 1.44 million tons of sugar from sugar beets and sugar cane in the Iranian year 1401, which ended on March 20, Peyman Hesadi, a spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture, reported on July 2 in Tehrantimes online publication.
Taking weather conditions and rainfall into account, this year’s production is expected to be at least not lower than last year’s. “The country needs 2.2 million tons of sugar every year. The amount of sugar that is missing has to be imported.”Hesadi said.
Recall that sugar production in Russia is projected at 6.2 million tons. Domestic consumption is at the level of 5.8 million tons. The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, in Order No. 508 of May 22, 2023, established the permitted volume of exports outside the EAEU at 1 (one) ton.
