New Zealand and Finnish prime ministers clash over sexist issue

Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand, and Sanna Marin, Prime Minister of Finland, disputed the issue, which they consider sexist, during a press conference this Wednesday in Auckland, New Zealand.

“Many people will ask if you decided to meet and get together just because you are the same age and have something in common, like when they entered politics, or can New Zealanders really be expected to consider agreements between the two countries”

Jacinda Ardern interrupted the reporter and asked, “Has anyone asked Barack Obama and John Key if they get together because they’re the same age?” referring to the former President of the United States of America and the former Prime Minister of New Zealand.

“We have a higher proportion of men in politics – this is a reality – and if two women meet, it’s not only because of their gender.” Time🇧🇷

Sanna Marin, on the other hand, replied that the meeting took place because “we are prime ministers”, the Finnish official added that the visit to New Zealand was “a special request of mine” and she hopes her visit will strengthen “connection with the country.
