The 24-year-old firefighter died Sunday evening while fighting a fire that hit cars in Saint-Denis, Paris, during riots that are taking place in several places in France, according to the Interior Ministry.
“A young corporal of the Paris fire brigade has died despite a very quick response from the group” of which he was a member, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said on Twitter, adding that the incident took place in an “underground car park”.
On Sunday, the executive branch again mobilized the 45,000 police deployed to deal with the riots that have been taking place in the country for several nights in a row after the death of Nahel Merzouk, which occurred last Tuesday in Nanterre, on the outskirts of Paris.
