SoftBank Group chief Masayoshi Son urged Japanese companies to work on developing generative artificial intelligence on July 4 during his speech in Tokyo, Japan’s NHK television channel reported.
The head of the Japanese telecom and investment giant noted that the country would quickly be sidelined if it were distracted by minor problems with generative AI.
In his opinion, now is the time for Japan to engage in AI as intensively as possible.
Note that the meeting was also attended by a representative of the American company OpenAI Gu Shein (the developer of ChatGPT). He noted that Japan is the only country outside the United States where his company has appointed a senior official as its official representative.
Gu said he has high hopes for Japan as he has already earned the world’s trust with his balance of aggressiveness and caution.
He also added that it is important to find ways to connect skilled workers in Japan with their counterparts abroad to develop artificial intelligence technology.
Son was unable to clearly answer questions from journalists about a possible collaboration between his group and OpenAI.
Remember that about a month ago, CEO Sam Altman said that he met with Son and together they are exploring business opportunities in the field of AI.
