The Dutch ruling coalition collapsed after failing to agree on how to deal with the number of refugees entering the Netherlands, NOS broadcast on July 7, citing government sources.
After several days of talks between key members of Mark Rutte’s cabinet, they could not reach a compromise, the sources said. This marks the end of Rutte’s fourth consecutive cabinet, the channel noted.
The last attempt to reach a consensus ended in vain on the night of July 7. They discussed the latest proposal from the Secretary of State responsible for asylum policy, Eric van der Burgh.
It should be noted that Van der Burgh raised a proposal to prevent the entry of more migrants when the premises created to receive them become overcrowded. This situation was repeated several times over the past year, provoking international condemnation, as the refugees were forced to camp in front of the Ter Apel reception center in extremely precarious conditions.
