Reconsider Turkey’s and Hungary’s NATO membership due to their refusal to accept Sweden’s admission to the organization, Idaho Republican Senator Jim Risch told reporters on July 7.
Rish is a ranking Republican member of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee tasked with advancing foreign policy-related legislation and reviewing executive actions such as arms treaties and deals.
Risch’s comments came as NATO expansion stalled due to internal divisions: “I’ve gotten to the point where maybe it’s time to rethink the way we bring together and maintain alliance members. There are several ways to regulate the membership of individual countries in NATO.. Jim Rish did not specify which way they were.
“Turkey and Hungary’s fears about the threat of terrorism in Sweden have nothing to do with NATO membership and undermine the Western united front against Russia in Ukraine. It is no secret that these countries, especially Turkey, are using the accession issue to solve some unrelated problems. This is not the correct way to be a member of this alliance.”He noticed.
In addition to the pressure to sell the F-16, there has been talk in the US of expelling Turkey from NATO.
