The 16th edition of the Alive festival will take place from 11 to 13 July 2024, as usual, on Paseo Maritimo de Alges in Oeiras, in a space that the municipality wants to expand to Cruz Quebrada.
The dates for next year were announced by promoter Alvaro Cowoins at the usual press conference for the release of NOS Alive, which ends this Saturday.
In 2024, the festival will again “locate” on Passeio Marítimo de Algés, “the most specialized venue with the most concerts in the last decade,” the promoter emphasized.
The mayor of Oeiras, Isaltino Morais, emphasized that “extraordinary quality efforts have been made” at Paseo Maritimo de Alges to host this and other musical events.
Although it has “reached a high level,” the festival is “still a target of criticism” from “offended residents,” but complaints are “resolved by the ticket,” the mayor said.
The municipality of Oeiras wants the space hosting NOS Alive “to be dedicated to major events”, recalling that in early August, “the Pope” Francisco will also “welcome here” as part of World Youth Day.
The first edition of Alive took place in 2007 at the Passeio Marítimo de Algés. Since then, the festival has been held at this space every year except in 2020 and 2021 due to restrictions imposed by the covid-19 pandemic.
Isaltino Morais admits that “infrastructure needs to be built”, saying, as in previous years, that he is “starting” the construction of a footbridge “to facilitate access”.
The link between Alges and Paseo Maritimo is through a tunnel that closes at certain hours, forcing people to walk part of the IC-17 on foot to get to the other side of the railway line.
In addition, the mayor asked the Minister of Infrastructure to “quickly order the expansion of the embankment to the Jamor River”, to allocate “an area of 30 to 40 hectares.”
“Conditions were created so that we could agree with the government on holding a festival in Cruz Quebrada,” he said.
In an edition that was practically sold out, according to Alvaro Covoins, only “300 to 400 tickets” remained to be sold this Saturday, and about 110 artists performed in 123 shows.
The 15th edition was “impacted by the KP reviewers’ strike”. [Comboios de Portugal]”, lamented Alvaro Covoins, stressing that the organization received “valuable help from Carris”, who “managed to strengthen the career” of buses.
The prosecutor said that he was in contact with the trade union that went on strike, with which “the administration of the Communist Party does not talk.”
“This is something that affects the entire Cascais range, and in the case of Alive [servido pela estação de comboios de Algés] has a very strong impact,” he said, noting that the same strike “will have a Harry Styles concert” scheduled for July 16 at Paseo Maritimo de Alges and could also affect initiatives scheduled for the same venue in as part of World Youth Day in early August.
The 15th episode of NOS Alive, which began on Thursday, will conclude this Saturday with performances from Queens of the Stone Age, Sam Smith, Tash Sultana, Angel Olsen, Boys Noize, Jesus Quisto and Yen Sung, among others.
