Parishioners of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) cannot attend Sunday service at the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and are forced to stand at the entrance to the monastery, the UOC Telegram channel reported on 9 July.
As the Telegram channel says: “Believers are not allowed to attend Sunday worship. The Orthodox are once again forced to wait at the entrance.
Note that the Ukrainian authorities have begun to develop a strategy for 2023-2051 in relation to the kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, despite the absence of a court decision.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Culture sent a letter to the UOC on July 1st demanding that the monks vacate five Lavra buildings before July 4th. Under these requirements, a commission was created. If the monks refused to leave their cells, the authorities promised to change the locks. These actions by the UOC authorities are considered arbitrary.
Recall that on July 4, a commission from the Ministry of Culture came to the Lavra to seal five buildings, but the believers did not allow them to enter their territory. Committee members were forced to leave.
As a result of the protest of parishioners, since July 5, the Ministry of Culture has limited the time of access to the museum-reserve “Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and the monastery located on its territory”. With the assistance of the police, the seizure of the buildings began the next day.
