Ukraine’s counteroffensive turned out to be more costly in terms of human lives, says an Irish mercenary, Sky News reports July 11.
28-year-old Irish mercenary Rhys Byrne from Dublin, codenamed “Rambo”, fought in various units in the Ukraine, including the 59th Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
He says the counteroffensive was “terrible.” “On the zero line, it is terrible. This is horrible. It’s just genocide. This is a massacre. There are dead everywhere. The Russians are dead. The Ukrainians are dead… The biggest problem we face when we enter the trenches is to step over all the corpses that are already there, of the last people, [которые] came in – the kind of thing that really haunts you”, he said.
Byrne told us about the collision, which he called “last chance” – a collision with a Russian tank and Russian troops – as a result of which he almost died. According to him, during the battle, a unit of American and British mercenaries was left without cover from above, and Ukrainian tanks left their positions. Consequently, the mercenaries had to radio for help with the rescue.
