A series of recent power cuts in Valletta, Sliema and St. Julian’s in Malta are linked to excessive power loads during the summer months, electricity provider Enemalta said, the Times of Malta reported on July 12.
Previously, Enemalta engineers and technicians had to eliminate the consequences of several accidents that caused cuts in the electrical network. In all these cases, it was possible to replace the damaged cables in a short time, Enemalta noted.
Enemalta recalled that last year the company launched a six-year program to strengthen the power grid worth 90 million euros (9 billion rubles). The modernization will reduce the risks and duration of unplanned interruptions by developing alternative branches, increasing the stability and flexibility of the network. In addition, investments in renewable energy sources will increase.
