North Korea appeared at the UN Security Council on Friday to defend its latest ballistic missile test despite condemnation from most member states.
At a meeting of the Security Council urgently scheduled after Pyongyang’s latest missile launch, North Korean Ambassador to the UN Kim Son said that the country used the right to self-defense only “to deter dangerous military movements of enemy forces.” and ensure the security of the state.
“We reject and categorically condemn the call for a Security Council ‘briefing’ by the United States and its supporters,” the ambassador said in a rare appearance at the UN when the country last attended a Security Council meeting. The Board on its own nuclear program was in 2017, according to diplomatic sources.
