The historical leader of the Socialist Party, Luis Patrau, passed away this Sunday morning at his residence Praia d’El Rey in Óbidos. He was 68 years old.
Luis Patrao’s wife found him dead around 11 am. He could have fallen victim to a sudden illness and was still rescued by the firemen of Óbidos and INEM Caldas da Rainha, but resuscitation maneuvers were in vain. The body is now at the Legal Institute of Medicine of Torres Vedras, where an autopsy will be performed.
Lawyer Luis Patrau held various positions in the party and government. He was Chief of Staff of António Guterres in the XII Constitutional Government and José Sócrates from 2005 to 2009. From 1999 to 2000 he was Secretary of State for the Interior.
Luis Patrao was born on 8 December 1954 and graduated in law from the University of Coimbra.
He was a member of two legislatures and held various positions in government. A confidant of virtually all socialist leaders, he served on TAP’s supervisory board from 2006 to 2015. He has also worked for ANA, ENATUR and was President of Turismo de Portugal.
