More than 50 pilot whales have died washed ashore on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland. Authorities tried to save the whales this Sunday, but were unsuccessful. It is believed that complications that arose in the female pilot whale during childbirth became the cause of the incident.

“The pilot whales are known for their strong social bonds, and often when one of them gets into trouble and runs aground, the rest follow him,” the organization explained.
