Auxiliary Bishop of Lisbon and organizer of the World Youth Day, D. Américo Aguiar, could not hold back his tears this morning, at the end of his visit to Ukraine.
“I can’t stop thinking, even in my sleep, about that boy in Lvov receiving the Ukrainian flag from the hands of the military who covered his father’s coffin… (moment of emotion). This boy needs our help. I hope that when I meet him again, even if it is in heaven, I will make sure that he did not harbor hatred or malice, which is not easy, ”said the cardinal with tears in his eyes.
The visit of D. Americo Aguiar to Ukraine ended with a prayer service near the memorial in the mass grave of the Church of Santo Andre de Todos os Santos in Bucha, from which the corpses of 116 people were exhumed, of which 30 were women and two were children. All victims of the Russian invasion that took place between March 3rd and 30th, 2022. It is recalled that in this city on the outskirts of Kyiv, more than 500 people died in the first month of the invasion.
In the Greek Catholic Church in Irpin, D. Americo Aguiar presented the parish priest with a pectoral cross with the symbol of the World Youth Day.
