Russia’s Security Council deputy chairman Dmitry Medvedev warned the West on Monday that “winter has just begun” after a cap on Russian oil prices went into effect.
“One thing is clear: the consumer is not going to benefit. So stock up on water, fire, blankets and heating pads. Winter has just begun,” Medvedev said in a message posted on the Telegram social network.
Medvedev says that attempts to regulate prices often lead to the disappearance of goods or increase their cost.
“No one has repealed the price law. This will happen with oil. Of course, it will not disappear, but the unimaginable will happen to prices,” Medvedev said.
The former Russian president joked that the situation reminded him of a “group of drunken European bourgeois” who decide to take a dip in icy water, causing some of them to drown.
The Kremlin said on Monday that it does not recognize any maximum price for its oil and is preparing a response to the decision of the European Union and the G7 to set a maximum price for Russian oil of $60 per barrel from Monday. .
At that time, the Russian government announced that it would not supply crude oil to countries that had imposed price caps on their oil due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
