MEPs from the European Parliament’s Budgetary Control Committee welcomed on Monday a proposal to suspend €7.5bn in EU funds to Hungary for violating the rule of law, hoping Budapest will “deliver on promises”.
“The MEPs who led the rule of law conditionality in the European Parliament welcomed [proposta de] suspension by the European Commission of 7.5 billion euros of cohesion funds for Hungary,” the European Assembly said in a statement released this Monday.
The position comes a day after the community executive proposed a 65% suspension of €7.5bn in EU funding to Hungary for violating the rule of law.
