Some 30 civic and human rights organizations in Kenya, including Amnesty International (AI), this Friday denounced police violence, including enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings, against demonstrators protesting the country’s tax hike.
“These groups have faced brute force from the security forces, resulting in serious injuries, extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances,” the organizations said in a statement released today.
The complaint comes after demonstrations organized in recent months by the opposition and other social groups, such as public transport drivers and taxi drivers, against tax increases promoted by the government of Kenyan President William Ruto.
