The German government has spent almost 55,000 euros on hair and makeup for former German Chancellor Angela Merkel since she left office in 2021. Two years after leaving office, the former chancellor continues to record expenses with the German government.
According to documents received Tagesspiegel and quoted political, it is the government that pays for Angela Merkel’s hair and make-up services for any event the former chancellor attends, both public and private. The former chancellor spent 37,780 euros in 2022, and already 17,200 euros this year.
“Assuming expenses is associated with continued representation at official events, whether they are public or private,” the German government reported Tagesspiegel.
The rise in the cost of hairdressing and beauty services for civil servants drew some criticism from the German government, with the President of the Taxpayers Association, Rainer Holznagel, stating that costs should be “kept to a minimum and, in case of doubt, paid privately”.
