The operation took place this Wednesday and eight people on board the vessel, including a woman, showed signs of dehydration and fatigue, and only two of the migrants were wearing life jackets, the National Maritime Administration (AMN) said in a statement.
The migrants were rescued by the maritime police and taken for security reasons to the port of Pantelleria, where the Italian authorities were waiting for them, the same source said.
Since June 14, the Maritime Police has been participating in Operation FEMIS, which is its sixth participation in the mission, the purpose of which is “to control and monitor the Italian and external maritime borders of the European Union, in the fight against border crossings.” frontier crime.
