US agricultural and food imports were almost $7 billion (685 billion rubles) more than exports, according to USDA data, the agriculture news portal reported on August 11.
Imports of agricultural products amounted to $148.2 billion (14.5 trillion rubles), and exports – $141.4 billion (14 trillion rubles). Analysts are forecasting a food trade deficit of $17 billion in the 12 months ending September 30 due to falling exports of corn, wheat, beef and poultry.
The USDA emphasizes that the demand for imports of wine, coffee, beer, fresh fruits and vegetables remains high. If the agency’s forecast turns out to be accurate, it will be the third time in the past five years that there has been a food trade deficit.
In the nine months to 2022, agricultural exports amounted to $152.1 billion (15 trillion rubles), reaching a record $196.4 billion (19.5 trillion rubles) in sales and a trade surplus of 2,400 millions of dollars. slower global growth compared to 2022.
