A fire broke out on a bus of the Municipal Urban Transport Service of Coimbra (SMTUC) on Monday, which was extinguished by people, civil protection sources told Lusa on Monday.
The fire was discovered shortly after 4:00 pm when Coimbra’s public transport was on duty in the district of Almalaguez, but there were no casualties according to the city’s Sub-Regional Office of Emergency and Civil Protection.
“It was extinguished by the public soon after,” a source for the organism said.
At 6:20 p.m., rescuers were still on Rua da Estrada Nova in Almalágues due to a fuel spill on the road, a source at the Sapadores de Coimbra (BSC) fire department said.
On site, in addition to the BSC, were also Coimbra volunteer firefighters, 15 in total, who were supported by five vehicles.
