An explosion at a cotton factory this Monday resulted in the death of a 60-year-old man as well as two serious injuries on Prof. Machado Vilela Avenue in Barbudo, Vila Verde.
The alarm about the accident was filed at 17:45.
Several firefighters from Vila Verde, Amares, Braga and Esposende were on site, as well as an INEM helicopter.
Of the injured, one was taken to the São João hospital in Porto, while the other was flown by an INEM helicopter to the Centro Hospitalar e Universitário Coimbra with third-degree burns.
Medical Ambulances and Resuscitation Vehicles (VMER) from Braga and Barcelos, an INEM motorcycle and an INEM team of psychologists were also mobilized to the site.
The explosion also started a fire, which was put out by the Vila Verde, Esposende and Amares fire brigades.
At 20:30, a source from the Cavado Sub-Regional Command reported that the fire had been extinguished and funds were already being demobilized.
According to the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection (ANEPC) website, a total of 65 operators were on site, supported by 24 vehicles and an aircraft.
