The African states, where Christians are most severely oppressed, were named by the Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, Metropolitan Leonid Klinsky (Gorbachev), on August 18, reports RIA Novosti.
According to the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church, those countries are “Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Cameroon, Mozambique, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Somalia.” At the same time, the situation in Libya is especially difficult: there are “practically no Christian churches left” anymore.
The metropolitan stressed that the Russian Orthodox Church is making every effort to protect Christians in Africa.
It should be noted that in October 2021 the Interfaith Working Group for the Protection of the Rights of Believers against Discrimination and Xenophobia of the Council for Cooperation with Religious Associations was established under the chairmanship of the Russian Federation, which deals, among other things, with the protection of Christians residing abroad.
