The mother of Luca Re Sartu, a young Italian pilgrim who died after contracting a bacterial infection during World Youth Day, received a call from Pope Francis and shared some of his words.
“He was extraordinarily kind. He was touched by me, wept with me and, above all, he was like a father,” the woman told Father Luca Raimoni, who shared the information during the memorial service for the young man.
In accordance with Vatican News the woman further said, “He comforted me as if he were my father.”
The call of Pope Francis to the young man’s mother was unexpected and impressed the woman very much, the same source continues.
